I’m enroute to Raleigh, NC for a friend’s wedding over the weekend. Was really tempted to make a day trip out to the dragon but it’s a bit too far for this trip. Anyways, just learned I can get free Internet on go go with just my t mobile number. This $25 a month phone plan ain’t bad! If only I had cell service in more places haha.

I had Tmobile when I lived in Sacramento, it worked pretty well there. Not so well in Montana. Only Verizon and AT&T actually get service in MT.

I love it. I've got free Wi-Fi on all flights

Semi related, what sort of speeds are 5g Oppos getting? 225mbps down is the best I have seen.

I assumed you just tied messages to moose or something there. I was on an at&t Sim at big Sky, definitely had very little service there outside when I headed into the city to resupply at Walmart. Could only imagine how bad t mo would be there!

This is the first flight I've tried it out on. I fly fairly often so it's a pretty nice perk!

I was actually surprised by how bad their signal was in rural Germany. After all it is their home market. It’s the same for all providers though.

You are not getting service in the mountains by anybody in Montana . Even on the back side of Whitefish MTN resort there is no service. But they now have wifi at the lift plaza so I can at least message before my phone dies from a cold battery.

I ain't got that fancy 5g nor do I need it on mobile that's for sure. I don't even get that speed at home on wifi lol.

Which plan are you on that is only $25 a month? I’m on T-Mobile ONE and for 2 lines pay around $100 a month (including Netflix). I was tempted to try getting down to a lower plan as I don’t really need the unlimited data...but I’m travelling internationally next week, so kept it for now for the perks (in-flight wifi, free data and texting internationally, and $0.25/min calls) while I’m gone.

I am spoiled with a gig dedicated at work, and 400mpbs down at home which I actually get over Wi-Fi because I have one of work’s “ old” Meraki AP’s in my house.

Meraki APs just for your house? Unless you live in a mansion that’s a win buddy

I have Sprint so I guess I’ll have t-m obile sometime soon now that the merger is approved. Not a ton of great perks Sprint these days. Though I’m curious what happens to my legacy employee referral plan (not so great anyways now that they’ve stopped subsidizing phones).

I’m on a data only plan with 6gb. I use Google voice for all of my calls anyways so it was a no brainer for me. It’s also more data than I could ever need. There was a 2gb plan for $10 but that was just too little of data. I guess I could do two 2gb plans per month and come out ahead but that sounds inconvenient for $5 haha. I think I could make 2gb work if I had to but I’ll take the luxury of not thinking about it at all for still a really cheap plan.
In debate though if I'll switch back to straight talk after unlocking this phone. It was better service for only a little bit more money.

How is that going to work figuring out networks since sprint is cdma?

1800 sq feet lol. I had to dial back the power

Interesting..and text? Is that included? Or that somehow works through Google Voice as well?

It does actually include text too but I'll never use it. I do also use Google voice for text since I ported my childhood phone number there to stay in contact with old friends. I couldn't tell you my t mobile number just the same as I didn't know my straight talk number even two years later. Google voice works way better than it did when I first started using it.

I think the whole CDMA/GSM thing is pretty obsolete these days, since 3G networks are a best a fallback in most places, and everyone is using LTE for 4G. And I think most phones sold these days can handle both CDMA and GSM.

They use different Lte radios for sure as well. There's a ton of phones that do not have cdma at all because it's a us only thing.

They use different LTE bands, but most phones now support a pretty broad array because it no longer makes sense to have carrier- specific radios.
